Finding a store is not as easy as you would think depending on a lot of factors, such as your style, budget and practicality. To share some different options with you, I am going to recommend my “go to” stores that I frequently use when styling a home or property.
My preferred style would be a combination of “Hamptons, Classic, French Country.”

When styling a room or a whole house, you need to remember that it does not have to cost a fortune. Choose good quality pieces that may have a higher price tag and mix in with things that are more budget friendly. For example, you could spend on a good quality lounge more, which will get lots of use and less on things that you might like to change with fashion like cushions and throw rugs.

Don’t be afraid to mix and match from different stores to give you the look you are after. I am a big believer that it all does not need to be too “matchy matchy”. Old and new looks fantastic mixed together, it adds warmth and authenticity to a space. Please note that these are not necessarily in order from highest to lowest.

1. Provincial Home Living

This is usually my first port of call! They have beautiful classic furniture that will never date or go out of style. You can even select pieces of their furniture that will fit into the most modern home and not look out of place. Black, white, grey and of course beautiful timber furniture fill the store with lots of accessories to complete the layers.

My absolute favourite would be natural oak furniture! They have lots of accessories including, cushions, throws, china, plants, pictures, lamps, bedding, and so much more! You will be surprised what you can find to add that special touch!

2. Freedom

There is so much variety at Freedom furniture! Freedom caters for so many different styles. There is furniture for living, dinning, bedrooms, outdoor, bathrooms, and so much more. Their prices are quite reasonable and the staff are very helpful. They let you move things around to see how everything works together. There is lots of cushions, lighting, curtains, plants, accessories and storage options to choose from. I have been buying their “S” shape sheer curtains which add a beautiful softness to a room. They sit just under the cornice and drop to the floor giving the illusion of large windows. There is lots to look at, so allow plenty of time to wonder around.

3. Oz Design

Like Freedom, there are so many things to choose from at Oz Design. They also cater for the whole house and will have furniture displayed in mini rooms for a particular style that you can choose from such as Hamptons, Modern, Industrial, Bohemian and lots of other styles. They not only have furniture for every room, but decorative pieces, lighting, wall art, cushions, throws, etc.

4. Townhouse Living

Townhouse living is in Yarra St, Geelong. It is a beautiful boutique store full of treasures! Here you may find the perfect thing to complete the space you are styling and bring it all together, or to be the focal point which will direct the whole look or style of your room. It’s full of beautiful accessories, china, wall art, frames, candles and fresh flowers! You can’t go past fresh flowers in a room! There is so much to see, I’m sure you’ll find that perfect thing!

5. Early Settler

This store is probably a bit more country or classic in its style, but still has lots to offer. There are also bathroom accessories, lights, artwork, furniture as well as a large range of things to style your outdoor area. Here in Australia our outdoor rooms are very important to us. We love using outdoor rooms, especially in summer. They have outdoor furniture, gazebo ’s and lots more!

6. Schots Home Emporium

This is a fabulous store with so many things to see! It is very vast, so be prepared to take your time and wonder around as you don’t want to miss out on anything! They have beautiful furniture in concrete, reclaimed timber and leather. They have lots and lots of beautiful lighting for many styles. Fireplaces, hardware, tiles, everything for your bathroom, home wares and also for your outdoor room. You’re sure to find something there that you’ll love!

7. Adairs

Adairs has a great range of what you need for styling. Their main brands are Mercer & Reid, as well as Home Republic. They have furniture, everything for your bedroom, bathroom accessories and home wares including cushions, throws, wall art, clocks, rugs, lighting, tableware – they even have something for your pet!

8. Bunnings and Wombat Gully Plant Farm

Yes, I will always go here! Plants are an integral part of any space. Not only do they bring softness and life, they are also really good for the air inside and look pretty! There is a running joke about me being a “crazy plant lady” – I guess maybe I am! In my family room alone, we have 12 real plants and a few artificial ones mixed in. If you feel like you can’t look after real ones, look for good quality artificial ones in add into your space. They may cost a little more but it will be well worth it!

9. Home in the Hamptons

So many beautiful furniture and interior design pieces are found here. They stock not only blue and white but you will also find white, black, grey and timber pieces. Lots of lighting, cushions, throws and decorative pieces to complete your room. They have the most beautiful artificial orchids that would look stunning in any home! Don’t forget to use designer books!

10. Lily Pond

This is a beautiful boutique store full of treasures to find. They have a mix of new and antique furniture and decor to buy, supplied direct from France. Some pieces are more ornate but they also have things such as a beautiful antique farm dining table full of character! For me, mixing in with old and new helps make a space feel like home. Some of their pieces can be more top end in price, but well worth it.

11. Kmart

Yes Kmart!! Kmart have really picked up their game in home wares, not that you would buy lots, but mixed in with other things. Make sure to be choosy and really consider your space. I have incorporated some of their products into our house and they look great. For example, I bought one of their baskets and filled it with hydrangeas. It sits on our sideboard looking pretty and it gives the desired effect without costing an arm and a leg.

Hopefully this has been helpful! There are so many other stores to explore in the Geelong region, so why not go out there and see what suits your style the most? Don’t be afraid to try different things and see what works best for you. Before you purchase something, check their policy on returns so you can bring it back if it’s not right. There are lots more things to consider when styling, but we might keep that for another day.

In the meantime, just have fun with it and watch your space evolve!

Happy styling!
