Sustainability

We believe the word ‘Sustainability’ can be multifaceted and be overly / easily used, to the point where the contextual meaning can be unclear.

At Homes with Integrity we have two very clear interpretations of sustainability and how we demonstrate it

Sustainability; the way we build

We’re passionate about protecting the environment we live in, and acknowledge that we have a responsibility to build efficient and environmentally friendly homes. We believe that construction that incorporates a more eco-friendly design and building practices, can not only save money in terms of heating, cooling and energy costs, but can also help minimise environmental impact.

Implementing Passive Solar Design is a simple way to increase the energy efficiency of your home. This involves identifying the best possible orientation and positioning of your home on your block, to maximise the potential solar benefits of your home. Due to Geelong, Surf Cost and the Bellarine Peninsula being located in the ‘mild temperature’ climate, key design criteria should be be considered for your home to fully utilise passive heating in the cooler months, and passive cooling in the warmer months.

There are many aspects that should be considered at the design stage that can influence the energy efficiency of your home and decrease future energy bills;

Orientation, thermal mass, insulation, glazing, shading, skylights & ventilation

If this is something you’re interested in, have a chat to your architect / designer and ask them to incorporate passive design features, or contact us at info@hwi.net.au for a list of local architects / designers that specialise in sustainable house designs.

Sustainability; the longevity of our builds

At Homes with Integrity, we want the homes we build to outlive us. We believe that quality materials and excellent workmanship are the foundations of building a home that will last generations.

We source high quality materials from reputable local suppliers and have our own chippy team, each of whom are experts in their trade and are held to an incredibly high standard of workmanship.

The sub-trades selected for our homes are reliable, trustworthy and held to the same standard of workmanship (and values) that our employees are. Over the years we have developed strong relationships with our sub-trades and we trust and expect, incredibly high standards of work.

As technological advances provide new and improved ways of achieving performance , at Homes with Integrity we’re determined to keep our finger on the pulse of this progress and readily implement change to bring about these advances.

This is done through regular training and research, with Homes with Integrity’s commitment to investigating methods, practices and materials that increase the home’s longevity and reduce its impact on the environment.

We are proud to be part of the Geelong Sustainability Group, with a key focus on constantly improving the energy efficiency and quality of the homes we build.

At Homes with Integrity, we are focused on environmental sustainability, in order to do so we prioritise passive solar design and are always looking for other options to reduce our carbon footprint.

We believe that the resources that we were given by nature are precious and are key elements in our well-being, as well as that of the future generations. The responsible use of these natural resources, such as harvesting energy from the sun, and water from the rain, can make a significant difference in the cost of keeping a home running efficiently, and also aids in reducing our carbon footprint.

We believe that there are many options and steps that can be taken to make a change. This is why we work alongside an organisation called “Carbon Positive Australia”.

Carbon Positive are an amazing foundation that focus on reforestation on degraded land within Australia. They do this by replanting native trees and bush-land in places where it is desperately needed, in order to restore natural habitat.

We support this incredible cause by planting 150 trees for each and every home we build. We hope to continue to improve these contributions and support foundations doing such important work, such as Carbon Positive Australia, as a means of living up to our name and mission in regards to being a sustainable and responsible company.
